Arknews
You may have noted my previous reference to the Ark of the Covenant. If so, there's a followup to the "Um...so where's this press conference?"
From what I've been able to piece together — your mileage may vary — the Ethiopian Patriarch merely made a statement to Italian news that he had seen the Ark, not that he was going to reveal it.
I have also seen it claimed that there was no actual translation error in the story — that Weekly World News erroneously reported that it would be revealed, and a few other news outlets jumped on it.
So there you go. It's hard to find a source solid enough that I can, in good conscience, cite it. But, that's what I hear.
Assuming that the allegations are true, then Weekly World News has riled up the Israeli government (Israel wants it back), along with several other agencies who may have wanted to receive confirmation, see it, or some such. Otherwise, the Ethiopian Orthodox Church attempted a publicity stunt that will horribly backfire in the coming months, likely culminating in the intervention of the Vatican, the greater Orthodox community, the Israeli government, or a ring of sexy jewel thieves.
In addition, if you have not already heard, take a moment of silence for TV pitchman Billy Mays, who passed away earlier today.
